Five Easy Green Resolutions For 2022

Resolve to incorporate some simple green changes to your new year goals.

It’s a new year and new goals are being made. As you’re setting your goals and intentions for the year ahead, there may be some goals you can set that keep our planet in mind. Here’s a list of green resolutions that you may add to your new year resolution routine.

1. Use reusable water bottles

According to WorldCentric.com, the US sends 20 billion water bottles to the landfill each year. Many US refrigerators now incorporate a filtered water system where you can refill your reusable water bottle. Not only could this help the environment but could also help you save on water bottle expenses.

“Consumer reports found that the cost to drink bottled water over the course of a year equates to about $346, while drinking the same amount of water from the tap would only cost you about $0.48

2. Keep your eye on your thermostat

It’s January, and in most places of the world—it’s cold! Although with the common cold and other viruses around, it’s understandable that it may be difficult to have your home matching the temperature of your fridge. According to ENERGY STAR, the best temperature to set your thermostat this winter is 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Having an smart thermostat may also help you save energy. 3. Drive less

In Texas, this can be a difficult resolution, although, not impossible. Try riding you bike to near by areas or going for a walk. According to treehugger.com, people tend to drive two miles to the gym so they can walk two miles on a treadmill. Oh the irony!

4. Eat Local Foods

You often hear people say: Eat Local! But why? Not only could this help nourish the local economy of small businesses in your area but this could lower the demand on foods coming from other areas thus, possibly reducing the levels of transportation to supply this food at your grocery store. Help reduce the food miles this year!

5. Reduce using single use straws

Giving up straws may be easier than giving up your car. There is a lot of debate whether or not giving up straws is really going to address our prodigious plastic problem. According to the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), 500 million straws are used each day by people in the United States alone.

Most plastic straws are also not biodegradable and cannot be broken down naturally by bacteria and other decomposers into non-toxic materials.
