Gexa Energy Supports 2024 Dress for Success and Career Gear Houston Clothing Drive
At Gexa Energy, community engagement is at the heart of what we do, and one of our latest initiatives—the collaborative clothing drive for Dress for Success and Career Gear Houston—truly showcases the impact we can have when we come together. This event, co-sponsored by our partners at Gas Infrastructure, spanned four weeks and included three key phases: a kick-off ice cream social, a clothing drive, and the final delivery of donations.
Phase 1: The Kick-Off Event
The initiative began with an ice cream social on July 18, 2024, hosted at the big breakroom. Over 150 employees gathered to raise awareness for the cause while enjoying summer treats. The space was transformed into a fun, beach-themed event with decorations that included green and blue tablecloths, ice cream-themed paraphernalia, and a soundtrack from the Beach Boys. With booths serving scoops of ice cream and various toppings, the event was enjoyable and effective in drawing attention to the upcoming clothing drive.
Phase 2: The Clothing Drive
Over the next four weeks, Gexa Energy and Gas Infrastructure employees donated 442 pounds of professional clothing. These donations—primarily business attire—benefited both women and men seeking to advance their careers. Women's contributions included business suits, dresses, shoes, and accessories, while men's donations ranged from suits and ties to shoes and shirts.
Thanks to the dedication of volunteers, the clothing was carefully organized, steamed, and packed for delivery in six large bins. Special thanks go to Bea Santana, Sherrie Matthews, Angele Mayfield, Alex Wrobleski, Diana Sullivan, and Tyrone Kimble, whose hard work ensured everything ran smoothly. We collected 70 more pounds of clothing than our friendly rivals in Florida and demonstrated that when Texas teams come together, we go big!
Phase 3: Delivering the Impact
The final phase involved delivering donations to Dress for Success and Career Gear Houston, two charities that provide career support to those in need. In total, 439 pounds of professional clothing, shoes, and accessories were distributed, with recipients expressing gratitude for Gexa Energy’s efforts.
Jodi, a representative from Dress for Success, expressed her appreciation, noting that the donation would make a tangible difference in the lives of many women. Both organizations provided all the employees who contributed with receipts for tax purposes.
A Lasting Impact
This community service project exemplifies how Gexa Energy and its affiliates continue to invest in local initiatives that uplift and empower individuals. This clothing drive's success provided immediate support for individuals seeking professional attire and fostered a sense of teamwork and generosity among employees.
