A cornerstone of Gexa is our commitment to giving back and supporting the people and organizations that impact the Texas community. One of the ways we do this is through our partnership with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), and most recently, their Random Acts of Light initiative.
On Thursday, September 15, Brian Landrum, president of Gexa Energy and corporate walk chair for the 2017 LLS Light The Night (LTN) Walk in Houston, surprised Kelli Shepard at our offices by offering with a full year of free electricity while she undergoes cancer treatment. This inspiring local mother is currently battling acute myeloid leukemia, a rare and aggressive cancer that has forced Kellie to take a disability leave from work and postpone her MBA pursuit so she and her daughter, Aubrie, could move back home with Kelli’s mother. Her story has touched all of us here at Gexa, and we are proud to support Kelli as she continues to fight this rare and aggressive form of blood cancer. We hope that taking this expense off her plate will offer some financial relief to Kelli and her family so she can focus on getting well.
LLS launched the Random Acts of Light initiative in 2016 to bring light and hope to blood cancer patients and their families, and to create awareness for the critical need to find treatments and cures for blood cancer patients. As the presenting sponsor of this year’s Light the Night Walk in Houston, we wanted to continue our support of LLS by getting involved with this campaign and we could not think of a more deserving person to receive this gift than Kellie.
